My name is Arild Fines, and I’m one of the developers of the AnkhSVN addin for Visual Studio .NET. This addin lets you work with the Subversion version control system from inside Visual Studio. It is not an SCC provider (I may write something about why it isn’t in a future post, if there’s interest) like the integration for other version control systems like Visual SourceSafe and Perforce. Instead it utilizes the VS addin model (and quite a few undocumented hacks) to achieve its integration.

Some of you already familiar with AnkhSVN may have noticed that things aren’t exactly moving along as quickly as it used to. This mostly have to do with the current situation at my day job. So where does Arild get his paychecks from?

My day job is as a software engineer at the Norwegian software company NAF-Data AS. We specialize (well, that’s all we do, really) in providing software and IT services to Norwegian pharmacies. We’re currently in the middle of developing the next generation of a system called FarmaPro. This is a complete IT solution for a pharmacy, handling prescriptions, sales, inventory etc. The current version of FarmaPro was written in Progress 4GL and runs on top of a Progress database, but the version I’m working on is rewritten from scratch using .NET and Microsoft SQL Server (the project didn’t start out that way, but that’s another story…)

Since the project is currently behind the original schedule, there’s currently a lot of pressure to get things done, particularly in the last couple of weeks since we’ve been finishing off a particularly hard iteration. This has left less time for AnkhSVN. Things have calmed down now, though, at least for a week or two.. I’m also due for my vacation in a couple of weeks, so I should be able to get something done then .
